What is Brazil Late Harvest Competition?
Brazil Late Harvest Competition is a strict selection
of the very best natural coffees produced by BSCA members. These coffees
have been chosen by a select group of national and international cuppers
at different times during the competition process. Only coffees that receive
a score of 80 or above are allowed to move forward in the competition. The
final winners will be sold to the highest bidder during a online auction.
What are Natural Coffees?
Natural coffees are those that are dried slowly under
the sun, a process which allows migration of the pulp sugars to the grain,
resulting in a cup with more body, especially indicated as a base for espresso
blends. Exactly because of their high quality, the contest was named “Late
Harvest” – establishing a parallel with the wines made with grapes in a
later maturing stage.
What makes these coffees so special?
Late Harvest coffees are much sweeter and have a good
and heavier body. They are usually picked six months ahead, according to
the maturation peak of each region. From the first quarter of each year
they show their total quality potential, since in natural processing grains
have to rest for a longer period of time.
How many coffees will be awarded?
The number of coffees given this prestigious award depends
entirely on the quality of the entrants.
